On the 21st of November our Northwest Ohio Young Marine unit had a small ceremony to honor an Iwo Jima Marine Corp veteran. Dominick Perretti served in the Marine Corp during WWII at Iwo Jima. Mr. Perretti joined the Marines at the age of 18. He was born September 14, 1926. Mr. Perretti is now 80 years old. He retired from the Marines as a Corporal. Our Young Marine unit wanted to show their gratitude for his service and sacrifice for our country. We presented Mr. Perretti with a certificate of thanks and an Iwo Jima Marine Corp blanket. This was only a small portion of the enormous thanks and love we felt. All of the Young Marines, staff and Marine Corp League members personally went up and shook his hand and told him thank you for his service. We were all very touched by Mr. Perretti. After the presentation we had a chance to speak with him and ask him questions. He told us that it wasn't hard in the Marine Corp as long as you were on the ball. We Young Marines think he has done so much for us and our country that there is no way to really repay him for his service. All we can do is honor and give him our thanks. Our freedom is because of him and fellow military men and women. Mr. Perretti because of you and many other Marines we can feel safe in our beds at night. Thank you! |
